Do you have a story to tell? I bet you do. Even if you don’t think you do. The fact is that often we don’t think other people will be interested in the lives we’ve lived and are living. 1) This is not true. 2) I am interested. Whether you have a grandfather who escaped a prisoner of war camp in Italy, a parent who rioted for or against apartheid, or a fun family story about a My Little Pony that got lost in Krugersdorp and you never stopped crying...please tell me your tale.
I am collecting South African stories, about our country but I am also interested in African stories as well as the expat experience (home and identity); what it’s like to be away from homeāare you throwing a party or burying your head in a pillow…or somewhere in between.
There are a few ways that you can share your story with me:
- You can write it yourself
- You can record it (the joys of smart phone technology) and I can turn it into a story for you
- You could scan it if it so happens to be your great great gran’s diary entry from 1892
…and then you can send it to me.
I will read it (or listen to it and put it into words) and edit it (because that’s my job and we want your story to sound amazing) and then send it back to you to check; if you’re happy, I will publish it on Our Fireside Stories. If you’re not happy, we’ll do a bit of ‘back and forthing’ until we get it right.
I am doing this as a passion project, not a service. There is no fee.
It’s like we’re weaving a tapestry of home together.
I would also love a short bio ( a couple of sentences is great) about the protagonist in your story. Have a look at other stories on the site as an example.
